Pray before you study
Pray for understanding and wisdom before you start studying will help you to focus on the words you read and a better understanding of the material
Pick a time to study
Select a time to study when you know you will be available
Study every day
Study the bible for 1 hour every day
Find a quiet place
Find a quiet place to study where you know you will not be disturbed
Do not study by verse alone
Studying one verse at a time can be useful to help memorize a verse but in order to understand the meaning of the verse. For example, if you take one word out of a sentence it can change the whole meaning of the sentence.
Read by chapter
Reading by chapter can help to understand the order in which things occurred.
Read by topic
Most bibles have a concordance which lists the different topics in the bible by word. For example, look up the word faith and you will find a list of bible verses in the bible which have the word faith in them. When you study by topic be sure to read the verses before and after the verse to get the true meaning.
